Advantages and business scope of international air freight logistics transportation

International Air Freight Advantages and Scope of Logistics Transportation

Recently, affected by repeated epidemics and the economic recovery of major economies, global freight market prices have remained high. Customer demand for international air freight has remained strong, leading to a continuous rise in international air freight prices, reaching a historical high.

  I. Advantages of International Air Freight Logistics Transportation

Although international air freight started late, its development has been very rapid. It is a modern mode of transportation. Air freight has many advantages, such as fast transportation speed, short transportation distance, safe and accurate transportation, simplified packaging, reduced packaging costs, and no restrictions by ground conditions. It is suitable for transporting small commodities, fresh and live commodities, seasonal commodities, and valuable commodities. Although air freight is expensive, goods with large volume and light weight are more suitable for air freight, because the starting point of air freight calculation is lower than that of sea freight. With the development and deepening of new technologies, products are developing from thick, heavy, long, and large to thin, light, short, and small. Therefore, the application of air transportation will be more and more widely used in the future, and the role of air transportation will be increasingly prominent.

II. Business Scope of International Air Freight Logistics Transportation

International Air Freight It mainly includes flight transportation, chartered flights, centralized transportation, and air logistics transportation.

  1. Flight Transportation

Refers to flights on fixed routes. It has fixed flight time, routes, and stops. Flight transportation usually uses passenger and cargo mixed aircraft, with small cargo hold capacity, making it difficult to meet the needs of large cargo transportation and high freight rates. However, due to the fixed flights, it is conducive to customers' arrangement of transportation of fresh or urgently needed goods.

  2. Chartered Flight Transportation

When the quantity of goods is large and the flight mode cannot meet the transportation requirements, chartered flights are generally used, which are divided into two types: full-aircraft charter and partial charter:

Full-aircraft charter refers to the mode of transportation in which an airline or charter agent leases the entire aircraft to the charterer, transporting goods from one or more air stations to the designated destination according to pre-agreed conditions and rates. It is suitable for the transportation of bulk goods. Generally speaking, its freight rate is lower than that of flights. The chartered flight freight rate of China's civil aviation is charged at a fixed rate per kilometer.

Partial charter refers to the situation where multiple air freight agents or shipping companies jointly lease an aircraft, or an airline leases the cabin of an aircraft to multiple air freight agents separately. It is suitable for situations where the whole aircraft is out of stock, the freight rate is lower than that of flights, but the transportation time is longer than that of flights.

  3. Centralized Transportation

Refers to the air freight agent transporting several batches of goods to be transported separately to a designated location, filling in the master waybill in detail, transporting them to the same location, and entrusting the local freight agent to handle the collection, customs declaration, and distribution. The more goods are centrally transported, the lower the freight rate, so centralized transportation is one of the important businesses of air freight agents.

  4. International Air Freight Logistics Transportation Services

Companies specializing in international air freight cooperate with airlines to provide shippers with fast delivery services. Specifically, after the company assigns special personnel to pick up the goods, they will send the goods to the airport faster, then notify the foreign agent of the flight number, cargo name, and consignee. After the flight arrives at the destination port, special personnel will pick up and deliver the goods, and after customs clearance, the goods will be directly delivered to the consignee. This method is a very good transportation method, especially suitable for transmitting various urgently needed goods and documents.
